Hurricane prep for your roof
Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. The best time to fix a weak spot is before a storm is in the forecast.
Before the season
- Get a roof inspection and fix loose or cracked tile, lifted shingles and failed flashing
- Clear gutters, drains and scuppers (especially on flat roofs)
- Trim branches that overhang the roof
- Photograph your roof and attic now so you have 'before' pictures
- Keep your policy, roof permit and NOA documents somewhere safe, with digital copies
After the storm
- Stay off the roof; check ceilings and attic for water from inside
- Photograph damage and report it to your insurer promptly
- Call a licensed roofer for temporary protection and a written estimate
- Be careful with door-to-door contractors — verify any license on DBPR

Spring, before June, leaves time to fix issues and get permits if needed.
Should I tarp my roof before a storm?
Tarps can blow off in high winds, so it's better to fix weak spots ahead of time. Call us early.
